Ocrelizumab is a humanized anti-CD20 B cell monoclonal antibody currently in phase 3 clinical trials for RRMS and primary progressive MS (PPMS). In a phase 2 randomized, placebo- and active-controlled trial in RRMS, ocrelizumab decreased the number of gadolinium-enhancing lesions by 89% with the 600-mg dose and by 96% with the 2000-mg dose.[4] To assess the effects of ocrelizumab on B cells, ocrelizumab was administered at doses of 0, 10, 50, and 100 mg/kg to cynomolgus monkeys.[5] After 2 infusions given 2 weeks apart, peripheral blood B cells (CD3-CD40+) were suppressed to undetectable levels. Recovery with the 10-mg/kg dose began at week 6 and with the 50-mg/kg and 100-mg/kg doses at week 14.

In einer randomisierten, placebo- und aktiv kontrollierten Phase-II-Studie zu RRMS senkte Ocrelizumab die Anzahl der Gadolinium-anreichernden Läsionen um 89 % in der 600 mg-Dosierung und um 96 % in der 2000 mg-Dosierung.[4] Zur Beurteilung der Wirkung von Ocrelizumab auf B-Zellen wurde Ocrelizumab in Dosierungen von 0, 10, 50, und 100 mg/kg an Javaneraffen verabreicht.[5] Nach zwei Infusionen im Abstand von zwei Wochen waren die peripheren B-Zellen (CD3-CD40+) auf nicht nachweisbare Konzentrationen supprimiert. Eine Erholung begann bei der 10 mg/kg-Dosis in der 6. Woche und bei den 50 mg/kg und 100 mg/kg-Dosierungen in der 14. Woche.

Phillip: Wow! I never would have thought that having a child come back home would be so stressful! It has the same impact as an age-related disability? Really?

Lisa: It’s not so hard to understand, Phillip. Think about it: Parents of adult kids have spent 18 years or even longer raising their children, and constantly putting their needs before their own. When the kids move out, the parents are finally free to travel, pursue their own interests…

Phillip: … and then their kids come back and ruin everything!

Lisa:  Something like that.

Phillip: Wow! Ich hätte nie gedacht, dass es so stressig sein kann, wenn ein Kind wieder zu Hause einzieht! Es soll die gleiche Auswirkung wie eine altersbedingte Behinderung haben? Im Ernst?

Lisa: Das ist doch wirklich nicht so schwer zu verstehen, Phillip. Überleg doch mal: Eltern von erwachsenen Kindern haben 18 Jahre oder noch länger damit zugebracht, ihre Kinder großzuziehen. Und die Bedürfnisse der Kinder kamen immer zuerst. Wenn die Kinder dann ausziehen, können die Eltern endlich machen, was sie wollen. Sie können reisen und ihren eigenen Interessen nachgehen …

Phillip: … und dann kommen die Kinder zurück und ruinieren diese Pläne!

While the economy remains dependent on agriculture, its services sector is well developed in retail and tourism. Telecommunications and financial services are gaining importance. Economic growth slowed to an estimated 4.6% in 2017—down from 5.8% growth in 2016. Political uncertainty following controversial presidential elections is hampering expansion. The underlying economic conditions remain favorable, which should enable a rebound to 5.7% growth in 2018.

Die Wirtschaft stützt sich nach wie vor stark auf die Landwirtschaft; das Land verfügt jedoch auch über einen gut ausgebauten Dienstleistungssektor im Einzelhandel und im Tourismus. Telekommunikation und Finanzdienstleistungen gewinnen zunehmend an Bedeutung. Das Wirtschaftswachstum verlangsamte sich von geschätzten 5,8 % im Jahr 2016 auf geschätzte 4,6 % 2017. Die politische Unsicherheit nach den umstrittenen Präsidentschaftswahlen behindert die Wirtschaftsexpansion. Die wirtschaftlichen Rahmenbedingungen bleiben günstig, was 2018 eine Erholung des Wachstums auf 5,7 % ermöglichen sollte.

Als ich zu Beginn der Gestaltung nach Materialien für den Deckel suchte, dachte ich an Biokunststoffe oder biologisch abbaubare Kunststoffe. Da die Internetrecherche mit den unzähligen Meinungen dazu wenig half, holte ich unter anderem bei der Deutschen Umwelthilfe Hilfe, die mich durch detaillierte Informationen unterstützt hat. Letztlich lernte ich, dass bei dem Thema viel Greenwashing betrieben wird. In unserem heutigen Entsorgungssystem sind biologisch abbaubare Kunststoffe sinnlos und Biokunststoffproduktion fördert zum Teil umweltbedenkliche Monokulturen.

When I started to look into materials for the design of the lid, I considered bioplastics or biodegradable plastic materials. But as I researched this topic online, I found many different opinions, which was not very helpful. I then contacted experts for advice, such as the environmental organisation Deutsche Umwelthilfe, which provided me with valuable detailed information. In the end, I learned that there is a lot of “greenwashing” in this area. With the waste management systems we have today, biodegradable plastics don’t make much sense and the production of bioplastics in some cases supports monocultures that are harmful for the environment.
